Rotterdam – The quarter-final between the Netherlands and Yugoslavia will be played tonight. After three victories, the Dutch are top favorites. A preview of the quarter-final against the Yugoslavs.
This summer, Kralj, Djorovic, Dukic, Mihajlovic, Jugovic, Stankovic, Stojkovic, Kezman, Kovacevic, Mijatovic, Milosevic and some of their friends will travel to Sint-Katelijne-Waver. The small Belgian town is chosen as a training facility for the upcoming opponent of the Dutch national team.
Yugoslavia’s first match was one of the most eye-catching posters of Euro 2000: Slovenia – Yugoslavia. Slovenia and Yugoslavia, until nine years ago these countries were still one. Last night, both countries faced each other.
The Yugoslavs eventually survived the group stage. Albeit a bit less easily than Orange. After the second victory of the Dutch national team, a true celebration arose in Rotterdam. Turks, Surinamese and Dutch, you name it. A melting pot of cultures celebrated the victory of the Dutch national team. The riot police were already ready, but Rotterdam was clear: “we don’t want riots”. A few days later, France also had to give in: the Netherlands advances after three victories in the group stage!
A Dutch hool says in “deleted scenes from the Rebels of the Bunnikside” that during the group stage of the European Championship they have so far worked with Utrecht, The Hague, Groningen, NEC, Twente and Willem II. The Dutch were top favorites for the duel with the experienced Yugoslavia. De Kuip was sold out for the match between the Netherlands and Yugoslavia. The Netherlands was ready for it!
When the match started it was thought that Yugoslavia could possibly win against the Dutch, but that didn’t last for too long when Kluivert show started, he played an amazing game and scored three goals against Yugoslavia with the match ending 6-1 in the favor of the Dutch. After the match the riot Police were ready and didn’t let any confrontation between the fans, in the end the Dutch celebrated their victory.
