The Eternal derby of Croatia or else known as the Croatian derby was played on 17.12.2023 and with both teams fighting for the title the atmosphere was intense. Both of them dominate the Croatian football with Dinamo having the upper hand after 1991. The rivalry started building up after 1992 and both set of fans “Torcida” on Hajduk’s side and “Bad Blue Boys” on the other are known to be amongst the most fierce supporters in the world, so you have an idea what this derby looks like.
The weather was cold but who could feel the cold during this atmosphere!? Unfortunately the teams didn’t produce beautiful football as the fans did on the stands, but hey it doesn’t matter as long as singing and atmosphere was going on for the whole game.
Before the derby started Torcida traveled from Split early in the morning and around 50 of them were stopped by the Police nearby Zagreb and were searched, nothing was found. From reports we learned that some of them couldn’t make it to the game, the reasons are yet unknown. During the day, the number of Torcida in Zagreb increased and the atmosphere started to take shape in Zagreb, as expected they filled the away sector in big numbers as always during this intense derby.
On the other hand BBB was expected to be on this derby in big numbers and they didn’t disappoint, they filled their sector and every stand on Maksimir Stadium (capacity 35,123) and of course as in rivalries the fans started mocking each other on the stands.
Before the match started the atmosphere was on a high level and with referee giving the signal it increased even more, unfortunately on the field the teams drew 0-0 and there wasn’t much action, maybe because Hajduk is a serious contender for the title this season.
